DEMOCRATIC RADIO ASKS SOCIALIST TO REFUTE REPUBLICANS' CLAIM "OBAMA IS A SOCIALIST"
Brian Moore Agrees: Obama is Not a Socialist, Not Even a Democrat; But Behaves as a Republican

Washington, DC,  Monday, May 18, 2009:    "Left Jab" Sirius XM Radio hosts, Mark Walsh and David Goodfriend, were told, in a nationwide May 17th, Sunday evening broadcast, that "President Obama is not a socialist, not even a Democrat, but behaves like a Republican."   This surprise response came from their socialist guest, Brian Moore, Chairman of the Socialist Party of Florida and former 2008 presidential candidate of the Socialist Party USA.

Moore was being interviewed by telephone from Florida by two Democratic radio hosts, who were the co-founders of Air America, a liberal/progressive radio network.  The former third party presidential candidate was invited on the "Left Jab" XM radio program to address the recent Republican accusation that President Obama is a socialist and represents a "Democrat Socialist Party."   Moore shocked his hosts by stating that Obama is "one of theirs" in reference to the Republicans, and said "The first 120 days of This administration should be labeled "Bush III."

The antiwar Socialist replied to the hosts' questions that many actions by the new administration can be titled, the "Bush-Obama Doctrines."

When the hosts told Moore toward the end of the show that the liberals and "more-left-leaning Democrats" could agree with many of Moore's points and could work together.  Moore rejected their assumption, stating all Democrats, even liberals, only want to "tinker with the economic system, and reform it at best."  Moore exclaimed that the socialists want to "radically alter the economy, create a systemic change, real change, so that more people will benefit in society."

The Florida civic activist, did not mince words when he offered two examples of Obama's Repubublicanism; by appointing Republicans to the two most important problem areas facing the nation, the economy and defense.  Moore said Obama appointed Timothy F. Geithner, of "Republicans for Obama" fame, and a former staff member for Henry Kissinger, as Secretary of Treasury; and Robert M. Gates, former Director of the CIA under President George H. Bush, and involved in the Iran-Contra affair under President Reagan, as his Secretary of Defense.

Moore then blasted the Democrats for their support of the Obama Administration who "has protected the very corporations and businessmen who have created the problem in the first place."  The Socialist activist offered examples of the Democratic Administration's misuse of TARP funds to help banks, financial institutions and Wall Street firms; his bailout monies for the insurance industry, both life and health, the automobile bailouts and lack of action toward the high interest rates of the credit card companies.

When asked by hosts Walsh and Goodfriend if Obama was showing signs of being a socialist by nationalizing the banks, Moore countered that "the President did not nationalize the banks," but instead provided $1 trillion in loans to the hedge funds to indirectly subsidize banks.   He said the government has only become a "major stockholder" in a number of large banks, but should have nationalized them instead.  He added, Obama turned power, control and compensation "back over to the very people responsible for the debacle."

Walsh and Goodfriend asked the guest what would the socialists do!  Moore responded the Socialists would nationalize the banks and financial institutions, turn over ownership and control to an Independent democratically elected commission, made up of economists, accountants, consumers and citizens who would set financial policy for the country.  Moore added, the Socialists would also "nationalize all for-profit large corporations, and transfer control and the means of production over to the  workers."

The second segment of the show had Moore explaining the difference between the Democrats and Socialists by criticizing the "continuing presence and expected retention" of up to 50,000 troops in Iraq, the re-deployment of soldiers to Afghanistan, and the "continuing [drone] bombings and military operations in Pakistan."  Moore accused the Obama administration of "saber-rattling" regarding Iran and "increasing American military spending and the size of the military" as well.

The former Peace Corps volunteer then jumped into the civil liberties area to again differentiate his socialist party from the Democrats.  He blasted Obama for "continuing to defend the illegal wiretapping," leaving the door open to outsourcing torture and "extraordinary rendition," retaining the use of military tribunals, opposing the congressional truth commissions on war crimes and torture and the president's rescinding the order to release 2,000 photos of prisoner abuse by American soldiers and the CIA.

The last  segment of the 20-minute radio program enabled the former health care HMO administrator to show that the "Democrats don't even support single-payer health care," while Socialists would "go one step further by nationalizing the entire health care system."  Moore said the socialists would "salary doctors, nurses and medical providers and own all the hospitals."  Policy would be set by regional commissions "made up of citizens, doctors, nurses and health experts," the socialist stated.  He gave examples of 37 countries which have national health systems and the health indices demonstrate people "live longer and are healthier" in all of those countries.  Moore offered Canada and Cuba as examples of better health care systems.
