Brian's Stand on Vital Issues of the Day:

1) Spoke out as candidate opposing Congressional Presidential Resolution for pre-emptive powers for Iraq war in 2002. Demonstrated vision, courage and adherence to principles by speaking out, demonstrating and opposing U.S. pre-emptive war policy, Iraq Invasion/War in Fall of 2002 and throughout 2003. Supports immediate withdrawal of American troops and corporations within a six month transition period; to be replaced by a United Nations peacekeeping force and with full authority in the area of reconstruction.

2) IRAN: While denouncing the dangerous saber-rattling rhetoric of the Bush Administration and Sen. Nelson’s recent call for punitive multilateral sanctions against Iran — a democracy until the United States covertly overthrew duly-elected Premier Mohammad Mossadeq in 1953 and replaced him with the Shah — Brian recognizes that a diplomatic and international solution is the only way to solve this deepening crisis and avoid catastrophe in the Persian Gulf, a potentially nightmarish scenario involving not only a widening civil war in neighboring Iraq, but oil prices exceeding more than $100 a barrel. Thousands of innocent Iranians — and countless young American soldiers — shouldn’t have to die for another Bush-inspired bi-partisan blunder. In addressing Iran’s nuclear ambitions, the international community must recognize that country’s legitimate security concerns with its neighbors in the region, including India, Israel and Pakistan, all of whom possess nuclear arsenals.

3) Spoke out in 2002 and 2003 as a candidate and concerned citizen in supporting the repeal of the major provisions of Patriot Act I, and Patriot Act II in 2006. Advocate of protecting American civil liberties and freedoms while reforming the criminal justice system.

4) Since early 1990’s has called for a balanced budget and an end to deficit spending. Concerned about reckless overspending of Bush Administration and by all of U.S. Congress, especially in pork-barrel spending.

5) Since early 1990’s has Advocated protecting American jobs by supporting fair trade over free trade, returning American corporations/manufacturers to American soil & halting out-sourcing of jobs and companies to foreign countries.

6) Urges repeal of poorly written Medicare bill Part D as piece-meal solution that will not work. It will burden the seniors even more and provide monies to HMO’s, pharmaceutical companies and hospitals and medical providers.

7) Advocates Universal Health Care for all Americans, through a single payer system. Favors system for inclusion of Medicare, Veterans Health Care, Uninsured and Insured all into one national system administered by local districts made up of providers, small business and consumers. Emphasis should be on prevention, quality care and cost controls.

8) Opposed to recent immigration bills in both the House of Representatives and the US Senate advocating erection of border walls, use and placement of national guard troops on border and expulsion of immigrants based on flimsy violations or minor offenses. The root cause of illegal immigration is caused by US Government economic policies that undercut foreign countries causing major social problems. Thus, America has a moral obligation and social responsibility to take care of those that she has pressured to come to our country.

9) The USA needs to withdraw from NAFTA, GATT, CAFTA and the World Trade Organization; plus it needs to seriously alter the economic policies of the World Bank and the International Development Bank. In addition, a living wage for all Americans needs to be established which will then enable the American work force to be easily employed in all the areas where immigrants have formerly occupied due to lower wages and benefits. With the establishment of a Marshall Plan for all of Latin America, and other third and fourth world economies, we will enable immigrants to remain gainfully employed in their own country and cultures, while simultaneously improving our diplomatic and peaceful relations with the world.

10) Congress needs to more firmly address corporate corruption, corporate welfare and special interest influence. Congress also needs to subpoena, indict and see that criminals are prosecuted, especially those from their own circle in the US Congress.

11) Favors campaign finance reform, public funding of campaigns and term limits.

12) Opposes President Bush's permanent tax reductions, tax benefits for the wealthy at the expense of the middle and lower classes, and favors NO new taxes.

13) Opposed to congressional pork grant allocations.

14) Favors reducing the Defense Budget by eliminating unnecessary and exorbitant high tech weapons, while simultaneously supporting a better paid and prepared active military. Advocates national guard and military reserve to be retained for homeland security; supports increased services for veterans.

15) Supports preserving and protecting Social Security System and it's funds.

16) Supports the increase of benefits and pay to military retirees and disabled; plus improving services to our senior citizens via national health insurance and an improved Medicare system and C-O-L-A increases.

17) Favors attention be given to WATER issues in the USA. Major emphasis must be given to the preservation, protection, distribution and allocation, retention and conversion of water for our society.

18) Encourages protecting environment and preserving our natural resources, while simultaneously working with responsible growth issues in our communities.

19) Favors development of renewable and alternative energy in order to stabilize increasing utility costs to all consumers, especially in the areas of oil, electricity and natural gas.

20) Need to relieve highway congestion and promote modern public transit via enhanced bus and railroad systems.

21) Favors a redirected federal budget away from military-industrial complex and toward the crucial domestic priorities of our country.

22) Will offer a multi-faceted foreign policy to promote arms control, peace and economic development to prevent and better eliminate terrorism while simultaneously reducing worldwide poverty.

23) Wants a special Marshall Plan for Latin America to assist its economic development while consequently reducing immigration to the United States.

24) Supports a major housing program for the millions of families who cannot afford high rents or escape gentrification and urban sprawl.

25) Advocates a living wage for millions of workers making less than $10 an hour; urges support for small farm economics over dominating agribusinesses; and attention to the crises of commercial food, water and diet policies.

26) Advocates better control of media concentration to prevent monopolies and domination of the public airwaves.

27)Supports educational reform to include higher teacher salaries, more equitable requirements for school adherence to “No Child Left Behind” policies; full accountability of educational system including independent audits and teacher testing.

28) Urges Congress to utilize its authority in calling for independent audits, indictments and prosecuting individuals and entities, including congressmen, white-collar officials, non-profit and for-profit corporations in matters of corruption and misuse of monies and authority.

29) Initiate congressional hearings to determine if Americans' freedoms and civil liberties have been violated or lost via the Patriot Act, warrantless searches, domestic spying, telephone company data mining, etc.

30) Initiate additional hearings on America's justification for going to war, abuse of prisoners and use of torture by the American military.

31) Remove the embargo on Cuba and eliminate the favored status provided to Cubans leaving their home island of Cuba.

32) Reduce corporate control of American companies and its control over our government and citizens: better pensions, health care, salary levels, safety conditions, environmental protections, legal rights, union protections, full benefits and a living wage for all Americans.

33) Supports public funding of elections, same day registration, multiple days voting.

34)  Abortion Rights:  I believe in the woman's right to choose under all conditions.

35)  Gays:  I believe that gays should be given equal rights in the workplace regarding job opportunities, benefits, etc., as well as working as teachers, scout counselors, etc.  They should be given equal rights regarding adoption as well.

I support civil and religious unions of marriage for gays.  I am opposed to the proposed "Marriage Amendment" that defines marriage only for heterosexuals.
